NYISO issued its April 2024 solicitation in response to a Public Service Commission order recognizing the need for transmission solutions to help deliver generation from offshore wind into New York City. In addition to being responsive to the New York City area’s need for reliable clean energy, this initiative helps meet the clean energy goals outlined in the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act). The NYPA and LS Power Grid New York team submitted its Five Boro Energy Connect proposals to the NYISO’s competitive bid process on June 17, 2024 for evaluation. NYISO has advanced all 12 Five Boro Energy Connect proposals past the Viability and Sufficiency Assessment. The NYISO decision, recommending a single transmission solution, is expected by the end of 2025.
